This week I’ve come across two posts which I thought I’d share with you. Both important in different ways. Both aimed towards writers, but of equal relevance to others, as well.

First, the writer, Lauri Kuibitsile, has written a clear, concise, well-reasoned and totally crucial post about understanding contracts here.  Lauri says:

The first and foremost thing for a writer to keep in mind at all times is that the publisher is part of a money making enterprise…. It doesn’t mean they are nasty or cheating, they’re actually doing their job, trying to make money for the business that employs them. The only one in that little group that cares about the writer is the writer. If the writer relinquishes that duty, no one will be doing it for them. If you remember nothing else remember that.

Very interesting. She then goes into detail on specific aspects of contracts and how to approach them. I think this is must reading for any writer, whether already published or aspiring. Or actually, anyone in any field who engages in contractual transactions about their own work.

And then, from the highly practical, to the inspirational — short story doyenne, Tania Hershman, has posted this TED Talk about what it feels like to be an introvert, and why the world needs to encourage them in their introverted ways (Did I say them? Maybe that should be us.)
