How adorable is that?
No, I won’t be sitting on top of Stonehenge on Tuesday, but I will be helping to celebrate the approach of the summer solstice by being one of four featured writers at:
Midsummer Pop Up!
Tuesday, 17 June, from 7.30 onward (come around 7 if you want to sign up for the open mic)
Bar des Arts, Weymead House, Milbrook, Guilford GU1 3YA
Besides the readers from the floor, I will be sharing the evening with poets Patrick Osada and Steve Pottinger, plus the poet/performer known as “Gary from Leeds”.
It will be a special treat for me to read beside Patrick Osada, a poet I have admired for years now, and one of the first poets I met when I started running around this poetry circuit eight years ago.
Steve Pottinger I don’t know, but am very much looking forward to meeting and hearing his work. It is said that his poems are of quiet protest, empathetic insights and incisive irony about life in the twenty-first century.
And “Steve from Leeds”? He’ll be giving a preview of the show — a bit of poetry, a bit of comedy — which he’s about to take up to the Edinburgh Fringe.
The organisers of the event, Donall Dempsey and Janice Windle, are wonderful poets in their own right and are known to throw a great party. So if you are in the neighbourhood, do come down. I’m sure it will be lots of fun.
