Over the past month, Mel u has featured the student writers of Anjali House in his blog, The Reading Life. He was so moved by the work of these students, their experiences and the reaction of his followers, that he also asked the Irish poet, Alan Patrick Traynor, to write a poem in response. The stirring result of that commission can be read here.
For me, I am incredibly moved that the work I have started in Cambodia with these students has reached so many people around the world, and has had such a profound effect. I head back there in a few weeks to do it all again, and I can’t wait. And this year there will be a difference for me. I have been asked to run my workshop for yet another educational shelter in Cambodia, this one on the norther border with Thailand in another village full of ruins called Banteay Chhmar. This one is run by the French NGO, Enfants du Mekong. Am I excited? Am I honoured? I can’t begin to say how much. Stay tuned for reports on it all.
In 4.5 years of blogging, I am most proud of sharing the posts of the students from this project with my readers.
As an Irish Poet, it has been my great pleasure to be involved with Mel and such talented children. Sue, you are an inspiration to us all.
