Now here is something really special (I know, I say this a lot, but bear with me). The blogger known as The Reading Life , written by Mel u, has set aside a series of posts highlighting the work of the Anjali House Writing Workshop that I have been running for the past few years. With the help of the on-site staff, I taught another workshop remotely a short while ago, and this time we focused on memoir. The idea was to showcase recent poems and stories from each of the students and have each piece accompanied by a short memoir of each writer. My idea was to help move them away from just seeing themselves as a member of a family and a resident of a certain city. Instead, I asked them to think about an episode in their lives that describes who they are and how they feel about something important to them. The results are very moving, and are perfect companion pieces to their work.
Please take a look at it here and then dip back in over the next days (I’ll keep providing you with the links). I’m very proud of each of these students, and honoured that this very widely read blog has chosen to highlight them. It’s a very exciting for all of us involved, and I know it will make for fascinating and moving reading, as well.
